Most About pages on websites rattle on and on about a person or business and fail to answer the one question you have.
Why should you pay attention to me?
That’s a great question and one I’ll now answer for you.
Allow me to tell you a short story and bring you to today…
The early years were spent finally getting out of college (Rock Chalk!) and then moving to the mountains (Steamboat!) where I spent my days outside and my nights in the bars (at least sometimes I was working).
At some point, the thought of responsibility kicked in – even though the thought of 9-5 office job made me, and still does, recoil in terror.
So along comes a real estate appraisal career (which included a 2 year stint with said 9-5 job in an assessor’s office) as well as a move towards a graduate degree in real estate and construction management.
Not sure what I was thinking there…still paying that shit off.
Anyway, with wife and new family in tow, it was time to leave the big hills of Colorado for the smaller hills of Northeast Oklahoma and the Grand Lake area.
Twelve plus years later after what most would consider a good run in my own appraisal business, I gave up my license.
I was done. Couldn’t do it anymore. I felt dirty. Remember, this was through the early 2000’s when things were rolling great guns in real estate.
Anyway, I was out.
And I wasn’t going to keep my license because that would have kept me busy enough to stay broke and pissed off, and I wasn’t going to do that.
Now this is where and why you should really pay attention.
In our little corner of Oklahoma back 5+ years ago, it was almost impossible to find reliable information online about local businesses, places to stay (it is a vacation area after all) and all of the real estate websites sucked.
I also had visions of getting my real estate license.
And as I had begun teaching myself about websites and online marketing back in the mid-2000’s, I was all in on creating a new website for the area that would serve two purposes:
- A local, informative website with a business directory, events, and local info
- Be my lead generation platform for my budding real estate career.
Well, for lots of reasons, that real estate career didn’t materialize (no more licenses to do business!).
But I continued on with that website, and over time something pretty amazing happened.
It kept growing.
I kept publishing content (fairly useful, nothing earth shattering) and the website kept getting more views, more engagement and was even growing an email list.
Some content was home run and some content barely resonated, but I kept publishing.
Which brings us to today.
In the last 12 months, that website, GrandLakeLiving.com, has had over 200,000 page views.
Could that kind of traffic to your website help your business?
Yes, I think so too.
Now, since I never did get my real estate license, that website has evolved to be one that is driven (for me) by advertising revenue, and I will tell you flat out that I do not recommend that as a business model.
Which is why I’ve been moving into things that have likely brought you to my website.
There is no question that people like you need help with your website.
And with your content creation, and brand expansion, and bringing more people – and ultimately more revenue – into your business.
It’s taken a while to get here, but that’s why I’m here today, in front of you now.
What I know now to be absolutely true is that if you show up everyday, put yourself and new content ‘out there’ on the interwebs, and are authentically YOU, that you will attract people into your world.
That doesn’t mean you need to write new words everyday or spend all day on the computer.
Not at all.
There are ways to systematically create content on a weekly basis that is more than enough to drive your brand and your business to levels that can truly change your life.
